Army Says Duo Belonged To LeT, JeM
Srinagar, May 17 (GNS): Two militants from Al-Badr outfit were killed in a gunfight in Khanmoh area of Srinagar, police said on Monday.
“On an specific input of JKP regarding presence of (militants) in Khanmoh area of Srinagar, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 50RR and CRPF in the area,” a police spokesman said.
During the search operation, he said, as the presence of militants got ascertained, they were given repeated opportunities to surrender. However, he said, they fired “indiscriminately” upon the joint search party which was retaliated, leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, two (militants) were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter,” the spokesman said in a statement to GNS.
They have been identified as Wasim Bashir Pandit son of Bashir Ahmad Pandit of Kakapora and Mudasir Ahmad Khanday son of Farooq Ahmad Khanday of Bargam Awantipora. “Both the killed (militants) were affiliated with Al-Badr.”
As per police records, the spokesman said that duo was part of groups involved in several militant incidents including planning and executing of attacks on police and security forces.
“Arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other incidents,” he said, adding, “ IGP Kashmir congratulated police & SFs for conducting successful ops without any collateral damage.”
Meanwhile, army in a statement here said that duo belonged to LeT and JeM. “The Security Forces took extreme caution during the fire fight and there was no collateral damage,” a defence ministry spokesman said. (GNS)
