7 truckloads of rice missing in Baramulla, FCSCA fails to act

Seven truckloads of rice were despatched from peg Baramulla to Hygam for distribution among people of the north Kashmir’s circle-D in December last year but failed to reach the destination.

While three months have elapsed, there is no trace of the truck loads of rice, sources told GNS. Also no action has been taken including criminal proceeding against the officials involved in the alleged scam.

Official sources told GNS that the 7 trucks loaded with rice were dispatched from peg Baramulla to Hygam granary in the month of December last year.

Accordingly on 31 December, 2019 the challan was made by the officials at Hygam and the same trucks were dispatched to ‘Baramulla D Circle’. However, they said, the authorities at Baramulla D circle denied to have received the trucks loads with the rice.

Besides, these 7 trucks, four more trucks loaded with rice are said to have been sold by the officials of Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs against fake challans etc.

“Till today there is no trace of these trucks or any action has been taken,” an official privy to the issue said. He said in normal course, FIR should have been registered and criminal proceeding taken against the erring.

If sources are to be believed top officials of the department has been informed about the embezzlement of rice by the Accounts section of the Directorate. Subsequently, the concerned Director constituted a team to probe the incident. However, till date no action has been taken against the erring officials.

When contacted concerned Director Bashir Ahmad Khan, he told GNS that he was busy in some meeting at Jammu and would be able to comment once he goes through the files in his office.

“There are so many such cases and I can recall the one you are talking about. I can comment only after going through the files,” he said. Asked whether action has been taken in all the cases which according to offer exist in the department, he dropped the call. (GNS)
