Amid fears of more covid-19 cases, police file 218 FIRs against lockdown violators in J&K

Amid fears of administration that actual cases of coronavirus in community could be more than those tested positive, the Jammu and Kashmir police has registered 218 FIRs against violators of lockdown in the J&K.  

“In its efforts to ensure complete lockdown across Jammu and Kashmir for safety of people, police has registered 218 FIRs including 69 in Kashmir Valley,” a police spokesman said.

The FIRs, he said, have been registered for defying the orders of lockdown issued by the government aimed to stop or break down the chain of deadly COVID-19.

Of these FIR, 28 were registered in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Awantipora.

In central Kashmir’s Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts, police registered 14 FIRs against such persons, the spokesman said.

In North Kashmir’s Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Bandipora district, police said, 27 FIRs have been registered.   

In Jammu, Samba, Kathua range, the spokesman said, police registered 50 FIRs against the persons for violating the orders. In Udhampur and Reasi range, he said 13 FIRs have been registered against the lockdown violators. Similarly, 21 FIRs has been registered against the persons for violating the orders in Doda Kishtwar Ramban Range, he said. “In Rajouri Poonch range  Police has registered 65 FIRs against the persons violating lockdown orders.”

Jammu and Kashmir police once again requested the people to follow the instructions seriously  to help in preventing the spread of deadly COVID-19.

Earlier deputy commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Choudhary took to tweeter and said that doctors suggest actual cases in community could probably be more than those tested positive. He urged people to stay indoors.

“Doctors suggest actual cases in community could probably be more than those tested positive. For heaven’s sake stay at homes and report to designated hospitals if you have symptoms /travel history. Consult on phone before visiting Hospital. Please. Spread the word,” he said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Authorities continued restrictions on Wednesday in Kashmir where eight covid-19 patients have been officially confirmed.

Tougher restrictions were imposed across the valley. Police and paramilitary forces were imposed in strengthen. Police was also seen making announcements through public address systems, urging people to stay indoors. Also, barricades in the form of concertina wires and other objects were erected across road stretches to bar the movement of people. (GNS)
