Srinagar, Nov 2(GNS): One person died and two people were successful in making it back to the embankment after a boat they were travelling in capsized in Wular Lake in Bandipora district on Wednesday.
Official sources told GNS that these three persons were carrying willow twigs when the boat suddenly sank near Banyari village of north Kashmir district this morning. While two persons swam their way back to safety and reached the embankment, they said, the third one in the boat, Javaid Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Baniyari drowned in the water body, one of Asia’s biggest freshwater lakes.
A large-scale rescue operation was launched by navy, SDRF and police besides locals to find the body of Javaid. After hectic efforts, the body was retrieved and handed over to the family for performing last rites, they added. (GNS)
